Great Sermons of the World: Heaven Booklet

Author: William Sunday

William Ashley Sunday was born November 18, 1862 in Ames, Iowa and spent much of his childhood in orphanages in the midwest.
From that humble beginning, he developed into the huge presence that one source describes so well:

The crowds were so great at Carnegie Hall when Billy Sunday preached in New York that even Andrew Carnegie couldn't get in. In 1918 the president of the Cadillac Motor Company called Sunday “this great plumed knight clothed in the armor of God.” John D. Rockefeller said of him, “Mr. Sunday is a rallying center around whom all people interested in good things may gather."

Between the orphanage and Carnegie Hall was baseball. He played professional ball with Chicago, Pittsburgh, and Philadelphia for the National League.
