Great Sermons of the World: The Scripture Way of Salvation Booklet
It has been stated that no preacher of the eighteenth century exerted more influence than John Wesley. Some historians even insist that had it not been for Wesley, the horrors of the French Revolution would have engulfed England.
Born at Epworth in Lincolnshire, England, Wesley attended and was graduated with distinction from Oxford and was ordained a priest in 1728. During this time, the English church was at its lowest ebb. Although a religious man, Wesley was not convinced of his own conversion until 1738. Yet his accomplishments have included being a classical scholar, a writer of hymns, the author of thirty books, and a social reformer.
