The Power of the Resurrection in the Believer's Life Booklet
"I sell here, sir, what all the world desires to have—POWER." So said financier and early industrialist Matthew Boulton to Samuel Johnson when introducing him to James Watt's new steam engine in 1776. Today, from the board room to the shop floor, from the business seminar to the home, the talk is about power. In our colleges and universities, too, power is a concern of every discipline. If "victimization" is the problem, "empowerment" is often part of the solution. Even in evangelical Christianity, there is a more entirely positive connotation to the word "power" than perhaps ever before. Biblical evangelism and healing are both described by popular Christian teachers as "power encounters." Is this simply another example of the church being molded by the world, or is there a legitimate Christian desire to have power?
