Death is Swallowed Up in Victory Booklet

Author: Donald Grey Barnhouse

Dr. Barnhouse & the Bible

"I know that my Redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand upon the earth, and after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God" (Job 19:25).

Death is both ordinary and extraordinary. We scarcely notice a funeral procession moving down the street. We read of a typhoon in Japan, note that 1,500 were killed, and pass on to the

baseball scores. We learn than an earthquake in Turkey has taken a great toll of lives, and we look at the stock market report. We read that flood and famine have taken half a million lives in China, and we turn the page to read something more interesting. We see crepe on the house next door, and if we live in the anonymous city and do not know our neighbors, we have but a moment's pause. But suddenly death is no longer at the next farm, the next house, the next apartment; it has entered our own circle and immediately it becomes extraordinary and raises age-old questions and arouses us to consider life after death.
